Team Fortress 2 Co-op Mode with Mann vs. Machine Update

Red and Blu working together isn’t that nice to see?

Valve Corporation have today announced a new six player co-operative game mode for Team Fortress 2 called Mann vs. Machine. Players will be against hordes of NPC controlled robot versions of the Team Fortress 2 cast. The update will include new maps and missions with new achievements and items to be earned.

From teamfortress.com: “Gray Mann has built an unstoppable automaton army with a single purpose: to destroy all things Mann Co. Luckily for you, the majority of this robot legion is equipped with basic weaponry that could never level an entire building. Unluckily, they also have access to giant bombs, which they’d drag through hell if it meant dropping one in a Mann Co. bombhole. And it’s up to you to stop them. And it’s up to a small cadre of Special Robots to stop you from stopping the regular robots.”

You can find out more about the update by going to the official website for Team Fortress 2.

I am still unsure what the update will be like in the end but it looks like its going to be a horde mode similar to ones in games like Gears of War 3 and Halo: Reach. It should be fun when playing with friends and a nice break from the more competitive side of Team Fortress 2 multiplayer modes.

It’s good to see a free-to-play game like Team Fortress 2 getting more updates even after being made free-to-play. You could argue updates are coming out quicker now since they went free-to-play.

The thing I find most interesting about this update is the improved NPC AI, I remember years ago having bots implemented in Team Fortress 2 was a big deal but probably not so much now. They have finally got round to adding some.

The Mann vs. Machine update will be made available on the 15th August.
