Spike Video Game Awards 2012 Winners and My Quick Thoughts on Award Ceremonies

I wonder if Samuel L. Jackson even know what video games are?
I wonder if Samuel L. Jackson even know what video games are?

God I despise award ceremonies and everything has an award ceremony these days. I forgot to watch the Spike Video Game Awards show last night but I am glad I did because most award ceremonies are cringe worthy to watch especially video game based ones. If last years one was anything to go by then I doubt much has changed. Anyway here’s the winners or I could say losers.

The new age battle of digital vs physical.

Soon on the 30th November PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners will be able to own every Assassin’s Creed game and DLC add-on for a total of £119.99 the publisher Ubisoft announced last week with the Assassin’s Creed Anthology pack. I will in this post explore whether you save more money if you buy them all individually via digital distribution than just getting the Assassin’s Creed Anthology pack instead.

The intergalactic space opera Olympic Games.

Yesterday The Walt Disney Company announced a deal to acquire Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, with half in cash and half in shares of The Walt Disney Company stock. This isn’t much of a surprise seeing as in the past Lucasfilm and The Walt Disney Company have worked together to create Star Wars and Indiana Jones attractions for Walt Disney Parks and Resort attractions across the world. At the same time as this announcement a new Star Wars film was announced. Currently its called Star Wars Episode VII and is expected to be released in 2015.

Hotline Miami and First Update is Available. Also Three Trailers and Some of My Thoughts on The Game

Blinded by the hot Miami lights and music.

The excellent 80s Miami, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, American Psycho, Drive inspired game Hotline Miami came out last week and I just got round to mentioning it now. It’s a very violent game but one that makes you think of how to solve the various puzzle like rooms and what the heck is going on around you. Is it a dream? drug and/or alcohol induced mayhem, are you a cop?, a hitman? or just someone out to get revenge? I am still trying to work it out as I play through.

My Opinion: In Minecraft all Animals are Homosexuals and Why its Hard to Make Genderless Games and Films

Sorry but this image probably says it all.

Markus “Notch” Persson has written on he’s blog recently about the issues of gender in Minecraft. Notch says he’s original intention when designing the game was to have the playable character “Steve” to be entirely genderless. He also says that he regrets adding a goatee to the character and that the character name Steve came from a joke response when someone asked him about the character.

This gave me an idea to explore about gender in games such as Minecraft and Tomb Raider while looking at how films handle this problem at the same time. Also I will explain why sex and gender is important in the various entertainment mediums.

My Opinion: European Court Rules That You Can Resell Downloaded Software and Games

Don’t judge a post by its cover.

The Court Of Justice of the European Union has today ruled that people should be able to resell digital downloaded games and software. This should completely change how services like Steam and Origin operate.
