King Toko’s Year in Review 2023 (Xbox, Spotify, and Steam)

Spending another year with the big three.

In the past, only Spotify did a viral yearly review of your usage of their service. Since then, Steam (Valve), Xbox (Microsoft), Nintendo Switch (Nintendo), PlayStation (Sony), and more have copied the trend.

GOTM: January 2023 – Hitman: World of Assassination

The non-threatening neck inspector is here.

Game of the Month (GOTM) is my monthly post where I highlight my favourite video game of the month. This was usually done on Twitter, but I have decided to write longer posts about each video game on my site. These posts will determine my Game of the Year (GOTY) at the end of the year. The same rules apply to GOTM as it does when writing my GOTY.

King Toko’s Game of the Year 2022 (GOTY) Awards

A tradition of playing video games continues.

It’s the last day of 2022 and nearly a new year, but I just finished my Game of the Year list. 2022 was a quiet year for me with games and there is plenty that I should have played. Yet, There weren’t many games worth mentioning this year. The only big-budget game that came out and didn’t disappoint was Elden Ring. All the others like God of War Ragnarök and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II were just more of the same. Stray made a big impression for the sole reason of having a playable cat, and Dwarf Fortress finally got a mass audience release. I didn’t play any of them.

GOTY 2021
Another year of playing video games.

It’s nearly the end of 2021, but before the New Year I have assembled my Game of the Year list. 2021 was a pretty quiet year for me regarding games. There were quite a lot of big-budget games like Deathloop, Halo Infinite, Hitman 3, Forza Horizon 5, and Resident Evil Village, all of which I didn’t play. Independent games such as Loop Hero and Fights in Tight Spaces continue to show that you don’t need a large budget to make unique games.

King Toko Game of the Year 2020 (GOTY) Awards

All the games that help stop the spread.

It’s nearly Christmas and not long before the end of 2020 but before it ends I have assembled my Game of the Year list. 2020 was a pretty quiet year for games. There were some big-budget games like The Last of Us Part II, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and Half-Life: Alyx. While Cyberpunk 2077 came and is a big disappointment. Crusader Kings III also came out but I purposely avoided playing it.

King Toko Game of the Year 2019 (GOTY) Awards

All the games that survived 2019.

It’s nearly the end of 2019 but before it ends I have once again assembled my Game of the Year list. 2019 wasnt the most memorable year for games, while there was some interesting games like Disco Elysium, Pathologic 2, Resident Evil 2, and Control it still had the usual big budget games that were mostly average. I played a few games this year mostly thanks to Xbox Games Pass, and from returning to old games. Many of the best games I played this year missed the cut off point and will likely feature in my Game of the Year 2020.
