While you can play Barotrauma in single player, the game is designed for multiplayer and co-op play. Each person plays a role which determines their responsibilities on the submarine. While everyone can play any role. It is recommended to have certain people man certain stations. You can also have a traitor on board if you want to make the game even harder.
Barotrauma is a submarine game. Expect a lot of it to be spent inside the vessel. While there are other stations to stop at and opportunities to swim around. Most of the dangers you will face will be inside. Fixing and caring for your submarine is essential to surviving the cold, dangerous European waters.
The game has Steam Workshop support, and there is a lot of content already made by the community on top of the content from the developers. If you can get a group of people you know playing it, it is some of the most fun you can have in a game. The hard part is getting people to play.
