Oni: Road to be the Mightiest Oni, the cute 3D action game by Kenei Design, Shueisha Games, and published by Clouded Leopard Entertainment, is out now.
The game is inspired by Asian mythology. It takes place on an island called Kisejima. A place where demons defeated by Momotaro can be challenged to obtain their power.
In the game, you play as Kuuta, a demon warrior and survivor of the Demon King’s army and his island spirit friend Kazemaru.
The gameplay and art style are reminiscent of a Zelda game. In the way, it looks and plays. The combat has that meaty impact and action system where every hit feels impactful.
Kuuta attacks with a club while Kazemaru sucks enemy spirits. By destroying the spirit, Kuuta can claim them for himself.
I am unsure how long the game is, but it seems like it will be a compact adventure that isn’t padded by unnecessary open world time wasting.
It reminds me of video games of the past, in a good way. A third-person adventure where you have a character and a straightforward experience to look onwards to.
The game is available now on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC. I am not sure why there isn’t an Xbox version.
