The action and role-playing game by Team Ninja and Koei Tecmo is out now. In some ways, it is similar to the Nioh games but set in China.
The game takes place in the dark fantasy version of the Three Kingdoms period. The time when China was divided into three dynastic states which were around 220 AD.
You can customise a character and choose one of five “Divine Beasts” such as Qilin (chimaera), Baihu (tiger), Qinglong (dragon), Zhuque (bird) and Xuanwu (tortoise). The beasts will assist players during combat or provide passive perks.
It takes inspiration from the Dark Souls video games, where you can use Battle Flags instead of bonfires to rest and level up. Like Nioh, the game is linear, but unlike that game, this one has a jump button which can be used in combat. It also features a co-op mode where a player can be summoned to help out.
If you enjoy Nioh and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, this is probably worth checking out. I am not sure it adds much new to the genre for veterans not to get bored, except for the different theme.
Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty also has a demo available on all platforms. It allows you to try out the first two chapters of the game. The demo period lasts from 24th February to 27th March 2023. If you complete the demo and carry your saved data into the main game, you will unlock the “Crouching Dragon Helmet” to use.
The game is available on Xbox, and PC Gamepass, so maybe try it?
