Steam Summer Sale 2014: Day Ten Deals are Available

The "Make Valve More Rich" Adventure Module is nearly at the gates of oblivion.
The “Make Valve More Rich” Adventure Module is nearly at the gates of oblivion.

Valve Corporation annual Summer is nearly over. Like many of the sales on Steam, most of their games on the service will be discounted. There are flash sales where community will be able to vote on what game should be given a massive discount every eight hours, flash sales and much more. This year Valve not just content with their millions from the upcoming Dota 2 International and have decided to try a different format by introducing a competitive aspect to the annual sales.

The Steam Summer Sale will last from 19th June 2014 to 30th June 2014.

Today’s Daily Deals Include:

Can only buy one game today?

Then buy: Shadowrun Returns is 75% off. Was £10.99 now £2.74.

Yesterday Daily Deals are still available.

Today is the last day to use your Summer Adventure cards so you might as well before I assume they get deleted.

You can learn more about the Steam Summer Sale here.

From store.steampowered.com: “In addition to the sale is the bonus Steam Summer Adventure. Collect, trade, and craft 10 Summer Adventure cards that can only be earned during the sale. Players can earn in-game items, community rewards, and points for their team by crafting badges throughout the sale. At the end of each day, the team with the most points wins.”

“30 randomly selected members of the winning team who contributed points by crafting badges that day will win 3 games off their Wishlist. Players are randomly assigned to one of five teams and through crafting can earn tokens which grant bonus points, steal points from other teams, or switch the player to a different team.”

My Thoughts:

Day 1

It’s kind of cool that Valve have decided to change the sales up a bit this year but in my opinion it’s not much of change. The only difference now is that Valve is encouraging people to spend even more money. So if you happen to be in the correct team and lucky enough to be one of the thirty chosen then you can win three games from your wish list.

Therefore its a 1/5 chance for being in the correct team and then 30/500,000 (probably higher) to win. The whole system just comes up as a cynical cash in by Valve on their loyal customers.

There will be a lot of quality games to choose from each day and there will also be plenty of deals to be had but like always if there’s some games you had your eyes on then the next two weeks is a better time than ever to get them. However I wouldn’t go crazy buying everything especially if you don’t have the time or will hardly play a certain game. For example a good game might only cost a few pounds but if you never play it then it’s still a waste of money.

Day 3

The best thing about this summer sale so far is watching the team flags race each other and seeing what free games people are getting from their wish list. The sales themselves haven’t been that tempting so far.

Day 4

Purple won on day 1, Red on day 2 and Green on day 3 so maybe Pink will win day 4?

Day 5

Pink won day 4 as predicted, it therefore seems that either Valve have rigged the competition (unlikely) or the community is working together so each team can win at least two days each (most likely). This may seem cool as everyone has the same chance to win but then whats the point of having a competition?

People working together to satisfy their own greed reminds me of when Alliance and Horde would take it in turns to win Tol Barad in World of Warcraft.

If the community is working together then Blue will win on day 5.

All this working together but spending tons of money for self benefit is basically capitalism and communism rolled into one. I call it capimunism, don’t be a capimunist.

Day 6

The first game I have bought in the sale so far is the “Can’t Stop Laughing Bundle” for £1 something. The bundle features BattleBlox Theater and Castle Crashers which are both good coop games.

Blue won on day 5 as I guessed. It looks like Valve have noticed the problem and have now changed how the winners are chosen. Instead of 30 members of the team that comes first winning, Valve have now made it so that the team in 1st place have 30 members win, 2nd place team have 20 members win and 3rd place team have 1o members win. This should therefore make people want to compete instead of being capimunists.

It should be a closer race with purple, green and blue looking like favorites for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

Day 7

Red came 1st, green came 2nd and purple came third. The competition was a bit more closer but the red team still managed to win by nearly double the amount of points compared to the other teams. It’s now more like a three-horse race instead of a race with five horses.

I bought the “The Blackwell Bundle” which included the first four Blackwell games and the “Syberia Bundle” which included Syberia and Syberia II. They only cost me a couple of pounds so If you like point and click and adventure games then I would recommend you buy and play them.

Day 8

Red team have won again on day 7 but I expect it to be a bit more closer in the next few days.

I still haven’t managed to win anything in the adventure competition which I knew would probably happen but at least I got some good games so far and only spent a few pounds to do so.

Day 9

Red team have won again on day 8.

Day 10

Pink team have won for the second time on day 9. The final day of the competition is looking to be very tight with only a few hundred points between each team so you could make all the difference.
