Dungeon Defenders: Familiars (Pet) Guide [Updated!!]

This is a Dungeon Defenders guide I have made which has a list of all the familiars you can get in the PC, Console and Mobile versions of Dungeon Defenders and how they can be obtained.

I will add more when I discover them in-game. Let me know if you discover anymore familiars in the game or find out more information about them.

Use Ctrl+F and the three letter word to quickly go to a topic. For example typing in [SPE] will go to Special Familiars.

Familiars are pets which follow you and provide stats gameplay assistance. They can be leveled up, renamed and traded with other players.

General familiars information

• Familiars level up with mana.
• Only one Familiar can be equipped per Hero at a time
• Most familiars have a low chance of appearing in the Tavern shop after completing a level.
• Some familiars can be named while some have unique names.
• I have discovered about 44 familiars so far.

Campaign Familiars [CAM]

Defeating the Ancient Dragon in The Summit on various difficulties.

Hero Guardians Familiars

Apprentice Guardian familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Special: Improves the damage of one or more nearby hero defenses.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on easy/normal/hard difficulty as an Apprentice or Adept.

Huntress Guardian familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Special: Improves the attack speed of one or more nearby hero defenses.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How:Complete The Summit on easy/normal/hard difficulty as a Huntress or Ranger.

Monk Guardian familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Does: Improves the attack range of one or more nearby hero defenses.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on easy/normal/hard difficulty as a Monk or Initiate.

Squire Guardian familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Does: Improves the damage resistance of one or more nearby hero defenses.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on easy/normal/hard difficulty as a Squire, Countess, or Barbarian.

Hero Animi Familiars

These familiars can only be equipped by their same hero class.

Apprentice Animus familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Fires heroic arrows, which become stronger based on your hero’s attack rating.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on Insane and Nightmare difficulty as an Apprentice.

Huntress Animus familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Fires heroic arrows, which become stronger based on your hero’s attack rating.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on Insane and Nightmare difficulty as a Huntress.

Monk Animus familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Fires heroic arrows, which become stronger based on your hero’s attack rating.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on Insane and Nightmare difficulty as a Monk.

Squire Animus familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique

Does: Fires heroic arrows, which become stronger based on your hero’s attack rating.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete The Summit on Insane and Nightmare difficulty as a Squire.

Survival Familiars [SUR]

Available after reaching Wave 15 of a particular campaign level.

Griffon familiar

Rarity: Common.

Does: Splash lightning damage up to 3 projectiles.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of The Deeper Well on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Steam Robot familiar

Rarity: Uncommon.

Does: Physical melee AoE damage..

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Foundries and Forges on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Serpent familiar

Rarity: Uncommon.

Does: Splash poison ranged damage up to 3 bolts.

Platfrom: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Magus Quarters on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Laser Robot familiar

Rarity: Uncommon

Does: Shoots laser beams from its eyes that pierce enemies and walls.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Alchemical Laboratory or The Throne Room on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Hamster familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Fires multiple arrows dealing physical damage.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Glitterhelm Caverns or Servants Quarters on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Tiger familiar

Rarity: Common.

Does: Physical melee damage that causes knockback.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Castle Armory on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Genie familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Gives mana based on physical damage done.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Hall of Court on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Fairy familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Heals nearby players much like the Medic.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Royal Gardens on Survival/Pure Strategy on PC or Reach wave 15 of Pure Strategy/Survival on Mistymire Forest on Console.

Hawk familiar

Rarity: Common.

Does: Physical ranged damage.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of The Ramparts on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Imp familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Repairs nearby towers, much like the Engineer.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of Endless Spires on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Dragon familiar

Rarity: Common.

Does: Deals splash fire damage with up to 3 projectiles.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Reach wave 15 of The Summit on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Shroomite familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Slows enemies with its attacks.

Platform: PC.

How: Reach wave 15 of Mistymire Forest on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Donkey familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Weakens enemies with its attacks.

Platform: PC and Console.

How: Reach wave 15 of Moraggo Desert Town on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Cowboy Monkey familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Fires piercing arrows that also heal players.

Platform: PC and Console.

How: Reach wave 15 of Karathiki Jungle on Survival/Pure Strategy or be a Playstation Plus member.

Djinnlet familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Deals elemental damage Gives mana.

Platform: PC.

How: Reach wave 15 of City in the Cliffs on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Seahorse familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Deals poison damage to up to 6 enemies.

Platform: PC and Console.

How: Reach wave 20 of Aquanos on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Pet Rock familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Significantly boosts stats, but reduces Hero Speed to zero.

Platform: PC.

How: Reach wave 30 of Talay Mining Complex on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Propeller Cat familiar

Rarity: Rare.

Does: Boosts player’s & nearby allies’ Hero Damage.

Platform: PC.

How: Reach wave 25 of Sky City on Survival/Pure Strategy.

Challenge Familiars [CHA]

Available after completing a particular Challenge.

Rainbow Unicorn familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Fires multiple piercing rainbows.

Platform: PC.

How: Complete each mission of the Assault Challenge Mission Pack consecutively.

Goblin Cupid familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Fires piercing arrows that also heal players.

Platform: PC.

How: Complete the Sky O’ Love challenge.

Democrat Donkey familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Does: Physical melee damage.

Platform: PC.

How: Complete the Presidential Battle Royale challenge on any difficulty. Either this or the Republican Elephant is randomly rewarded.

Republican Elephant familiar

Rarity: Unique.

Does: Physical melee damage.

Platform: PC.

How: Complete the Presidential Battle Royale challenge on any difficulty. Either this or the Democrat Donkey is randomly rewarded.

Achievement Familiars [ACH]

Available after earning the correct achievement.

Chicken familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Deals Heroic splash damage with both ranged and melee attacks. Knocks back enemies in melee and shoots eggs at distant monsters.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Unlock all non-DLC achievements in the original game.

Giraffe on Treadmill familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Extra base stats.

Platform: PC, Console and Mobile.

How: Complete the final wave of Survival Mode on any difficulty.

Kain familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Can repair any nearby tower.

Platform: Mobile.

How: Obtained by earning the Legendary Defender achievement.

Mega Chicken familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Deals Heroic splash damage with both ranged and melee attacks. Knocks back enemies in melee and shoots eggs at distant monsters.

Platform: PC.

How: Obtain 36 Humongous Eggs.

Weighted Companion Cube familiar

Rarity: Ultra-Unique.

Does: Deals Physical damage and knock back enemies, as well as rewards mana. This pet always has the same stats and upgrades.

Platform: PC.

How: Finish original Challenges on Nightmare with Hardcore mode.
