The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Shout Locations [Updated!!!]

Time to shout!

These are the known shouts found so far in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. A shout is draconic language which has the powers of dragons. You can learn these powers by finding dragon tongue words on word walls. I will add more when I find them.

Each shout consists of three Words, with each word making a shout more powerful. You find these words by visiting Word Walls, defeating dragons or completing quests.

You do not need to visit the Word Walls in order as you will learn the Words in the correct order no matter which walls you visit first.

Shouts:

Animal Allegiance

The beasts of the wild come to fight in your defense.

  • Raan – “Animal”
  • Mir – “Allegiance”
  • Tah – “Pack

Locations:

Inside Angarvunde in The Rift.

Inside Dragon’s lair in Ancient’s Ascent.

During Glory of the Dead quest in Ysgramor’s Tomb.

Aura Whisper

Reveals the life forces of any and all.

  • Laas – “Life”
  • Yah – “Seek”
  • Nir – “Hunt”

Locations:

Inside Volunruud in The Reach, where you encounter a Dragon Priest.

Northwind Summit Dragon’s lair.

In Volunruud during The Silence Has Been Broken Dark Brotherhood quest.

Become Ethereal

Changes your form to one that cannot harm, or be harmed.

  • Feim – “Fade”
  • Zii – “Spirit”
  • Gron – “Bind”

Locations:

Inside Ustengrav from The Horn of Jurgen Windcaller.

Above the Lost Valley Redoubt.

End of Ironbind Barrow in Winterhold Hold.

Call Dragon

Odahviing! Come forth. I summon you in my time of need.

  • Od – “Snow”
  • Ah – “Hunter”
  • Viing – “Wing”

Locations:

After the main quest, you can still summon Odahviing outdoors.

Call of Valor

The valiant of Sovngarde hear your Voice, and journey beyond space and time to lend their aid.

  • Hun – “Hero” – Gormalith Golden
  • Kaal – “Champion” – Feldir the Old
  • Zoor – “Legend” – Hakon One

The number of Words you use calls forth a different summon.

Locations:

Call of Valor is learned during the main quest.

Clear Skies

Clear away fog and inclement weather.

  • Lok – “Sky”
  • Vah – “Spring”
  • Koor – “Summer”

Locations:

Clear Skies is learned during The Throat Of The World main quest.

Disarm

Defies steel, as you rip the weapon from an opponent’s grasp.

  • Zun – “Weapon”
  • Haal – “Hand”
  • Viik – “Defeat”

Locations:

At Silverdrift Lair.

At Dragon’s lair at Eldersblood Peak.

Speaking With Silence quest takes you to Snow Veil Sanctum.

Dismaying Shout

The weak shall fear the Thu’um, and flee in terror.

  • Faas – “Fear”
  • Ru – “Run”
  • Maar – “Terror”

Not all enemies are affected by this effect.

Locations:

Lost Tongue Overlook, where you’ll encounter a Dragon.

Pieces of the Past quest takes you to Dead Crone Rock.

At Shalidor’s Maze in Hjaalmarch.

Dragonrend

Your voice lashes out at a dragon’s very soul, forcing the beast to land.

  • Joor – “Mortal”
  • Zah – “Finite”
  • Frul – “Temporary”

Locations:

Dragonrend is automatically learned during the Alduin’s Bane main quest.

Elemental Fury

The Thu’um imbues your arms with the speed of wind, allowing for faster weapon strikes.

  • Su – “Air”
  • Grah – “Battle”
  • Dun – “Grace”

Locations:

At Shriek Bastion.

At Dragontooth Crater.

In The Break of Dawn quest, in the Kilkreath Ruins

Fire Breath

Inhale air, exhale flame, and behold the Thu’um as inferno.

  • Yol – “Fire”
  • Toor – “Inferno”
  • Shul – “Sun”

Locations:

At Dustman’s Cairne during Proving Honor quest.

At Sunderstone Gorge.

Found in The Throat Of The World.

Frost Breath

Your breath is winter, you Thu’um a blizzard.

  • Fo – “Frost”
  • Krah – “Cold”
  • Diin – “Freeze”

Locations:

Skyborn Altar during a Miscellaneous quest.

Folgunthur in Hyjaalmarch with the side quest Forbidden Legends.

At Bonestrewn Crest in Eastmarch.

Ice Form

Your Thu’um freezes an opponent solid.

  • Iiz – “Ice”
  • Slen – “Flesh”
  • Nus – “Statue

Locations:

Saarthal near the end of Under Saarthal.

At Mount Anthor.

In Frostmere Crypt.

Kyne’s Peace

The Voice soothes wild beasts, who lose their desire to fight or flee.

  • Kaan – “Kyne”
  • Drem – “Peace”
  • Ov – “Trust”

Locations:

At Shroud Hearth Barrow in Ivarstead after Investigate the Haunting Miscellaneous quest.

At end of Ragnvald.

At Rannveig’s Fast.

Marked for Death

Speak, and let your Voice herald doom, as an opponent’s armor and life force are weakened.

  • Krii – “Kill”
  • Lun – “Leech”
  • Aus – “Suffer”

Locations:

In The Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary.

In Forsaken Crypt.

At Autumnwatch Tower.

Slow Time

Shout at time, and command it to obey, as the world around you stands still.

  • Tiid – “Time”
  • Klo – “Sand”
  • Ul – “Eternity”

Locations:

The Jagged Crown quest in Korvanjund, behind the throne.

At Hag’s End.

The Staff of Magnus takes you to one.

Storm Call

A Shout to the skies, a cry to the clouds, that awakens the destructive force of Skyrim’s lightning.

  • Strun – “Storm”
  • Bah – “Wrath”
  • Qo – “Lightning”

Locations:

At High Gate Ruins while following a lead given to you by a courier.

During The World Eater’s Eyrie quest you will be taken to Skuldafn.

At Forelhost in The Rift.

Throw Voice

The Thu’um is heard, but its source unknown, fooling those into seeking it out.

  • Zul – “Voice
  • Mey – “Fool”
  • Gut – “Far”

Locations:

You learn all three Words at Shearpoint, where you fight a Dragon and a Dragon Priest.

Unrelenting Force

Your Voice is raw power, purshing aside anything who stands in your path.

  • Fus – “Force”
  • Ro – “Balance”
  • Dah – “Push

Locations:

Inside Bleak Falls Temple during The Golden Claw or Dragon Rising quest.

Learned from the Greybeards in High Hrothgar during the main The Way Of The Voice quest.

Learned from Greybeard after finding the Horn of Jurgen Windcaller.

Whirlwind Sprint

The Thu’um rushes forward, carrying you in its wake with the speed of a tempest.

  • Wuld – “Whirlwind”
  • Nah – “Fury”
  • Kest – “Tempest”

Locations:

Learned from the Greybeards in High Hrothgar during The Horn Of Jurgen Windcaller quest.

At the End of Volskygge.

In Dead Men’s Respite in Tending the Flames quest.

Dawnguard DLC:

Drain Vitality

Coax both magical and mortal energies from your hapless opponent.

  • Gaan – “Stamina”
  • Lah – “Magicka”
  • Haas – “Health”

Locations:

Inside Dimhollow Crypt while doing the Awakening quest.

In The Forgotten Vale. The Word Wall is located in the middle of the frozen lake.

Found in Arcwind Point, west of Riften.

Summon Durnehviir

A Shout granted to you by Durnehviir during the Beyond Death quest.

  • Dur – “Curse”
  • Neh – “Never”
  • Viir – “Dying”

Locations:

Durnehviir teaches all three Words,

Soul Tear

Your Thu’um cuts through flesh and shatters soul, commanding the will of the fallen.

It is obtained from Durnehviir, a Dragon you meet in Soul Cairn.

  • Rii – “Essence”
  • Vaaz – “Tear”
  • Zol – “Zombie”

Locations:

Call Durnehviir three times in Tamriel using Summon Durnehviir.
