Song of the Month (SOTM) is where I highlight my favourite song of the month. These posts will determine my Song of the Year (SOTY) at the end of the year. The same rules apply to SOTM as it does when writing my GOTY.
I use Spotify to determine which songs are my favourites. This means they are based on how often I have played it and may not be 100% accurate.
My SOTM for May 2023 is Tasmin Archer with Sleeping Satellite, a rock and pop vocal. The song was released in 1992 as a single, then on the Great Expectations album in the same year.
Tasmin Archer is a pop singer, active since 1992. Sleeping Satellite was a number one song from her first album, Great Expectations.
I like to listen to old music, and this is one of them. It is a melodic and acoustic song that features piano and guitars. The instruments are kept simple. It is a soulful song that works well as a complete piece.
I like the song as it tells a story. While it is about space exploration, you could easily replace the meaning to love and hopeful disappointment or anything else. Blaming it on a satellite, in this case, the Moon.
As I mentioned, the song is about the Apollo missions in the late 1960s and early 1970s. When written, the possibility of going to space again was slim. The Moon is so close, yet so far.
Gladly, interest in space and climate change has increased in recent years, so the Moon and this song are more relevant than ever.
See you next time for my new 2023 Song of the Month.
